Hi there!

I'm Holly DeGroot. I'm a former engineer turned photographer and a lover of all things creative. I live in Iron Mountain with my husband Adam and our little spitfire of a dog, Jackson. 

I was born and raised in Iron Mountain, graduated from Michigan Tech in 2006 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and worked in the Chicago area for a few years before moving back to the UP with my husband in 2010. We missed the UP too much to stay away for long!

I discovered my love for photography kind of by accident. I’ve always been creative and spend a lot of time making things, which eventually turned into my other business, Bijou Lovely, where I design fabric and sewing patterns. That evolved into taking photos of the things I made, and has given me some amazing opportunities, including photographing several craft books!

I decided to pursue a career in portrait photography in 2012, after realizing how much I enjoyed taking photos of people, especially high school seniors, couples and families! I juggled working for myself along with continuing my full-time job for several years, and finally made the leap into full-time self employment this past winter. I'm not a huge risk taker, but being able to pursue my passion without anything holding me back has been a risk worth taking! I'm excited to see what the future holds for me and my photography business!

The Studio

My husband and I purchased a historic train depot in downtown Iron Mountain in the winter of 2015 and spent countless hours transforming it into the space that is now my photography studio. The space was built in 1889 and has been restored to showcase the original brick, hardwood floors, and exposed beams. It has a modern, industrial loft feel with whitewashed brick, beautiful natural light and brass accents for a little sparkle! The exterior is our next big project, so you might see some work being done outside throughout the summer. Feel free to stop in during my normal business hours to check it out!
